I count myself very lucky.

Both my parents were avid readers and they encouraged my habit all through my life. Now that I have a young daughter there is nothing I love more than reading to her and sharing the excitement of a story. World Literacy Day is an important reminder that not everyone has that opportunity. Across the Globe nearly 15% of adults cannot read or write and, even more shamefully, in the UK nearly 20% of adults still have ‘very low literacy skills’.

What does it mean to be young in 2026?
For me, it’s exciting, but also uncertain. My generation is entering a job market where AI can complete tasks in seconds that once sat firmly within graduate and entry-level roles. It’s hard not to wonder what that means for us and the careers we’re only just beginning. Through my experience working in a creative agency, I’ve started to look at the rise of AI differently.
